Creative Apple Crafts with Yarn
Now that you have your supplies, let’s get started on these colorful apple crafts.
- Cut out a cardboard apple . (This is a great way to reuse your amazon boxes)
- Choose a yarn color.
- Tape the end of a long piece of yarn to the back of the apple.
- Wrap the cardboard apple with yarn until you cannot see the cardboard. Don’t cover the stem.
This is the perfect time Ito reuse your old amazon boxes. If you’re like ma and the thousands of teachers inside the Teachers on a Budget group, amazon boxes arrive at your house on the regular.
After drawing several different sized apples onto the cardboard, I suggest using an Exacto knife, or box cutters, to cut them out. This is not a task for younger children. Sometimes, we have to have things prepped for them to have fun without getting hurt.
The kids can choose from red, yellow, or green yarn. They could also mix the three apple yarn colors together, and wrap the apple with all three yarns at once.
Once they choose their color, tape the end of the yarn to the back of the cardboard apple. This is a great idea to help the yearn stay in place as they wrap the apple. I like to tape it on, and do a couple wraps in each direction to get the kids started. This way, they can see what’s expected of them.
The kids will then keep wrapping the cardboard until it is completely covered. This yarn project is a fun activity for older preschoolers and even the older kids. It seems as though kids of all ages find different ways to make them look so good. Wrap green pipe cleaners around the stems to make them look like real apples.
