Are you looking for an easy pumpkin STEM activity to add to your October plans? This Pumpkin Candy STEM Tower is simple to set up, fun for kids to build, and uses just two materials!
Kids use pumpkin-shaped candies and craft sticks to see how tall of a tower they can build. As they stack, balance, test, and rebuild, they’re practicing early engineering and problem solving skills without it feeling like a lesson.

🎃 Pumpkin Candy STEM Tower
For this challenge, you’ll need:
- pumpkin-shaped candy
- craft sticks

Set the materials out at a table or STEM center and let the kids take it from there.
Kids place the craft sticks on top of the pumpkin candies to create each new level. Then, they continue adding pumpkins and sticks to see how high they can make their tower before it falls.
There isn’t one right way to build it. Let them experiment with different arrangements and figure out what makes their structure strong.

This simple pumpkin activity packs in quite a bit of learning.
Kids are practicing:
- Engineering and design
- Problem solving
- Critical thinking
- Fine motor skills

While they work, you can also ask a few simple questions, such as:
- How can you make your tower taller?
- What makes it fall?
- What could you change to make it stronger?
- How many pumpkins high is your tower?

Once the kids finish building, have them draw their creation on the included recording page.
There’s also a spot for them to record how many pumpkins high they were able to build their tower.
This makes it an easy activity to use during STEM centers, math centers, morning tubs, small groups, or your pumpkin-themed week.
