October seems to be the month when kids are excited about everything – pumpkins, costumes, candy, and all things Halloween. That excitement can make learning extra fun, but it can also make keeping everyone focused a little tricky!
To help you out during this fun and crazy month, I put together Free October Activities for Pre-K and Kindergarten. It gives you a coordinated week of playful literacy, phonics, math, fine motor, and discussion activities.
Inside, you’ll find seven October activities you can use during whole group, centers, small groups, morning work, or homeschool lessons. I also included a simple planning guide to show you how the activities can fit together throughout the week.

2. Jack-o-Lantern Craft
What would October be without a fun and simple craft to hang on the wall!
Your kiddos will tear construction paper and glue the pieces inside the template. It’s a simple October craft that strengthens fine motor skills and makes and adorable display!

3. October Color by Codes
These October Color by Codes will give your kids independent practice with early literacy and math skills. They’re easy to use for morning work, centers, early finishers, review, or homeschool lessons—and answer keys are included.

4. October Math Mats
Kids count the pictures, fill the ten frame, trace and write the number, and find it on the number line.
The free pack includes numbers 1–5 with two levels of support, making these reusable mats perfect for centers, small groups, or intervention.

5. October Pattern Cards
Kids can use pom-poms, counters, counting bears, buttons, or cubes to recreate the AB, AAB, and ABB patterns. These hands-on cards build pattern recognition, sorting, visual discrimination, and fine motor skills.

6. October Phonics Activities
The October Phonics Pack sample includes letter identification and beginning-sound practice. Use the pages during literacy centers, small groups, morning work, or as a quick check of the phonics skills your kids are working on.
