November is one of those months when it helps to have a few easy activities ready to go. Between fall themes and Thanksgiving, I always liked having activities I could use for whole group, centers, small groups, or those little pockets of time that needed to be filled.

So, I put together a FREE set of November activities for pre-k and kindergarten that gives you a little bit of everything – math, literacy, writing, poetry, and a fun turkey craft.

Even better, the activities are designed to work together, so you can use them to create a simple themed week without pulling resources from five different places.

🦃 November Math Activities

With this free download, there are several opportunities to practice early number skills throughout the week.

November Math Mats

The November Math Mats are an easy hands-on math center. Kids count the objects, fill the ten frame with mini erasers or another small manipulative, trace and write the number, and find it on the number line.

You can also use the mats in sensory bins, small groups, tutoring, or homeschool lessons.

Turkey Missing Numbers

For more counting and number recognition practice, I’ve included Turkey Missing Numbers for numbers 1–10 and 1–20.

Kids count through the number chart and cut and paste the missing numbers into the correct spaces. november-missing-numbers-sample

If a child needs extra support, count through the chart together first. You can even lightly pencil in the missing number and have them find the matching piece.

November Math Talks

You’ll also get a sample of my November Math Talks.

These are great for getting kids talking about math, rather than simply giving an answer.

Display the question and give everyone time to think. Then ask questions such as, How do you know? or How did you solve that?

The goal is to give kids time to explain their thinking and hear how others approached the same problem.

🦃 November Literacy Activities

Scarecrow Pocket Chart Poem

The Scarecrow, Scarecrow poem is a fun addition to your November literacy activities.

Start by reading the poem together during whole group. Add motions, let kids join in as the poem becomes familiar, and even personalize it using their names.

Then, move the poem into a poetry literacy center where kids can sequence the cards and rebuild the poem in the correct order.

November Color by Code

I’ve also included November Color by Code pages that can be used for independent literacy and math practice.

One of the literacy pages has kids use the beginning sound of each picture to determine which color to use.

These are easy to pull out for morning work, centers, independent work, early finishers, or homeschool lessons.

November Writing Prompts

The free November activities also include simple writing prompts for beginning writers.

Kids can draw and complete the sentence on each page. If they’re not ready to write independently, they can dictate their sentence for you to write. These November Writing Prompts are one of my favorite ways to build writing confidence starting early in the school year.

🦃 Turkey Craft

And, of course, we need something hands-on!

The Turkey Tear Art Craft combines fine motor practice, art, and beginning writing.

Give kids colored construction paper and glue, then have them tear small pieces of paper to fill the turkey. When they’re finished, they can trace and complete the sentence at the bottom. turkey-tear-art-craft-thanksgiv…

No complicated craft prep needed!

🦃 One Simple Week of November Learning

You could start your day with the Scarecrow poem and a November Math Talk. Add the writing prompts and Color by Code pages to your literacy centers. Put the Math Mats and Missing Numbers into your math rotations. Then pull out the Turkey Tear Art and turn on a Thanksgiving movie for kids.

Or simply choose the activities that work with what you’re already teaching.

That’s exactly how I like themed planning to work—a plan when you need one, with the flexibility to make it your own.
