November has come, and us teachers and parents are ready to bring out the fun Thanksgiving learning activities.

If you’re looking for a fun Thanksgiving themed math activity for the kids, look no further!

We just released the new November Math mats that your kids are going to love!

While the other monthly math mats posts go into more depth, this blog post is a quick overview to share how you can use the November mats with your kiddos, as well as what’s included in the resource.

Numbers to 10: November Math Mats

The November Numbers to 10 Math Mats are an interactive, hands-on, math activity to build number sense and engage your active learners in counting and writing numbers 1-10.

There are two levels in every set. The 2 levels are perfect for easy differentiation!

Get the November math mats HERE or on TPT

Level 1: The number is represented with a set of images already in the tens-frame. Kids point and count to number set to build one-to-one correspondence, counting in order, and cardinality.

Level 2: The tens-frame is blank for kids to independently build the number using manipulatives such as mini-erasers.

Your kids will get to practice numbers to ten on Fall and Thanksgiving themed mats in the following ways:

  • Build and Count
  • Trace the number
  • Write the number
  • Circle the number on the number line

Numbers to 20: November Math Mats

Once your kids have mastered numbers to 10, it’s time to move on to numbers to 20.

One important thing to note:

Yes, you can absolutely expose your kids to the numbers to 20 while also working on numbers to 10.

However, you’ll want to make sure they have true concepts of numbers. In other words, if they are struggling with 1-10, help them before setting new expectations.

For example, if the kids are not able to rote count, identify numbers, count a set of matching objects, or cannot tell you what comes before/after a given number within 10, we do not recommend moving on to numbers to 20.

The November Numbers to 20 Math Mats come with 2 levels to support the kids at their current levels.

Level 1: The number is represented with a set of images already in the tens-frame. Kids point and count to number set to build one-to-one correspondence, counting in order, and cardinality.

Level 2: The tens-frame is blank for kids to independently build the number using manipulatives such as mini-erasers.
