In this blog post, we’ll explore some exciting ways to introduce basic n words to your little ones, along with helpful tips and a list of n words young learners can relate to.

Activities That Start with N

When teaching the letter N to kindergarten kids or preschool kids, there are numerous activities the kids can do to reinforce the new letter sound.

Here are five fun activities to do with your letter of the week lessons:

  1. Nature Walk: Take your students or homeschoolers on a nature walk and encourage them to spot things that start with the letter “N,” like nests, nuts, or even names of plants and animals like “narcissus” or “newt.”
  2. Noodle Necklaces: Engage in a hands-on craft activity where children can create their own “Noodle Necklaces” using penne or elbow pasta. Not only is it fun, but it also strengthens fine motor skills.
  3. Numbers Play: Incorporate numbers into your “N” lessons. Teach counting using numbers and objects that start with “N,” such as nine nuts or five nests.
  4. Letter “N” Hunt: Hide large cutouts of the letter “N” around the classroom or home, and let the children find them. Once they spot one, encourage them to name words that start with the letter “N.”
  5. Name Tracing: Have your students practice writing their names and the letter “N.” Provide them with tracing sheets to guide them along the way.

Which fun activity will you do first with your kiddos?  Whichever you choose, kids of a young age will have fun learning their letter sounds!

To introduce letter n words to kindergarten children, I recommend integrating word and picture cards into their daily life routines.

The alphabet word cards come with lowercase n and uppercase N cards, along with picture cards and words cards that have easy words that start with /n/ – both have a corresponding picture to help build the child’s vocabulary.
