The Origin of Mary Had a Little Lamb
This sweet story of Mary and her pet lamb came to existence in the nineteenth century. In 1830, Sarah Hale wrote this rhyme about a young girl who brought her lamb to school.
It is said this is a true story about a teacher, a little girl, and an incident of the lamb.
Sarah was once a teacher in a New Hampshire small school house. The pictures portray a one-room schoolhouse. It is there that Sarah reportedly experienced the story of a girl brining her pet lamb to school.
Telling this story is a great way to engage your young students in the following learning activities.
